Everybody knows the city of Angels, it is famous worldwide for the presence of Hollywood and the setting of many famous films, but when you are truly going there, what should you visit?
I have always been attracted by all the counties but Unites States, I always imagined that place as only a group of skyscrapers and nothing else interested to see. But for some reasons and also the fact that my sister had been there in an EF program for two weeks, gave me a little interest in going to visit this famous city.
Before arriving in Los Angeles I had literally no idea of how many days would I have needed, what exactly to see there and how to move. So I opted for six. Now that i have been there I can advise to you.. stay more! Simply because the city is huge and the movements inside will take you quite a time. Also because there are some attractions, but it general is a pleasant city so you could even just enjoy it!
Hollywood Sign
Landmark and cultural icon of American entertainment history, being in this place is the dream of all world film passionate and.. also those who are not. Collocated on the mount Lee, these letters offer a very good spot to take some pictures and enjoy time with friends or family.
You can reach the place easily by car. With a twenty minutes walk you could also climb the hill and reach the back of the letters, which could make your adventure just special!
Did you know that the sign was put there as a promotion for a suburban housing development called "Holly-woodland"?
Santa Monica Pier
Santa Monica Pier is a another big landmark of Los Ángeles. It was built by adding up two different piers and and opened in 1909 to provide an entertainment place for the settlers of the State of California, newly passed from First Mexican Empire to the United States.
The good things to do in Santa Monica are taking a walk, or a bicycle ride along the beach, doing a tour on the Ferris Wheel, or observing the surfists catching the best waves of the Pacific Ocean.
Santa Monica is actually another city coastal of Los Angeles. Along with Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, they have their own Government. The yellow line subway connects Downtown to Santa Monica in about fifty minutes.
Griffith Observatory
One of the best location of La La Land Musical, the Griffith Observatory is a place not to be missed in Los Angeles. On the south-faced side of Mount Hollywood, this Observatory is a scientific and astrological museum and a strategic point for an amazing view on downtown LA, the Hollywood sign and the Pacific Ocean.
The admission to the Observatory is free, there are in addition Planetarium shows with a cost 7$ per adult, 5$ student, 3$ for children. You can check the official site here.
Walk of Fame
The Walk of Fame indicates both sidewalks of Hollywood Boulevard, in which were inserted more than 2600 stars carrying names of musicians, actors, directors, producers, musical and theatrical groups, fictional characters famous in Los Angeles and throughout the world.
The Walk of Fame was created by the President of the Chamber of Commerce in 1953, with the idea of "maintaining the glory of a community whose name means glamour and excitement in the four corners of the world".
Accounts says that the idea of using the symbol of STARS because of Sugarman's Tropics Restaurant drinks menu, which featured celebrity photos framed in gold stars.
Each year, 200 names are submitted to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Committee. Nominees must have a minimum of five years' experience in the category for which they are nominated. At a meeting each June, the committee selects approximately 20 to 24 celebrities to receive stars on the Walk of Fame.
Walk of Fame Universal Studios
Is the oldest surviving studio in the United States, that created many movies and motion pictures during Hollywood Golden Age and until now.
The company was established in June 1912 and from then it developed and incorporated other champion film companies that were already studying a better way to improve and set up the world of cinematography.
In order to visit the Universal Studios it is recommended to purchase the ticket online on the official website universal studios Hollywood.com, by selecting the exact date that you are intended to visit the park.
Getting there is also another factor to organise: public transportation in Los Ángeles is not perfectly operating, there is though the Red subway line, that covers all the area of Hollywood, and has a designated stop called Universal/Studio City Station.
Once you arrive there, there will be a small train on wheels, organised by the Park itself, that for free will help you reach directly the entrance of the park. Try to arrive at the earliest possible in order to enjoy the full day of attractions and fun. If you have a second day in Los Ángeles free, you can use it to visit again the park, as it is gonna be free and included in your ticket.
Inside the park it is open a world of rides and shows, where you are going to be able to see directly the sets in which where filmed famous old movies as Psycho, Jurassic World, Transformers, and new one like The Simpson and Minions.
Also, there are live shows that introduce you to the movies techniques, or how are the special effects created.
The Harry Potter part is also very cool, having a ride that makes you fly across Hogwarts making you experience the scares and excitements of the life of the protagonists of the movie.
